10/17/2009 - 2009 Bricklayer 500

The 4th annual Bricklayer 500 was held at Quikrete Cement and Concrete Products on October 17, 2009. Townsend & Schmidt Masonry was represented by Todd Neff with help from his tender, Andrew Young. They finished in 3rd place. Several familiar Townsend & Schmidt Masonry faces were in the crowd at the event as well.

09/12/2009 - 2009 Northern California Fastest Trowel/Skills Challenge

On September 12, 2009, the 3rd annual Northern California Fastest Trowel contest was held at Basalite Concrete Products. Townsend & Schmidt Masonry had several employees participate in the contest. Chad Close won 2nd place with help from Garr Ben-Iesau & Alfredo Mendina working as his tenders. Noe Rivera competed for his 2nd year, and Todd Neff entered the competition with his son as his tender. Alex Morua participated in the Skills Challenge and deserved much better than his 3rd place finish. Andrew Young and Hickory McCoy mixed enough mortar to build an entire building in one day. Robert Close assisted in judging the competition. A lot of Townsend & Schmidt Masonry employees were scattered through-out the crowd. Also, again this year, Kevin MacDonald was crucial to the behind-the-scenes work.

09/20/2008 - 2008 Northern California Fastest Trowel/Skills Challenge

The 2nd annual Northern California Fastest Trowel contest was held at Basalite Concrete Products on September 20, 2008. Representing Townsend & Schmidt Masonry for the 2nd year was Chad Close with help from Garr Ben-Iesau and John VanBuskirk working as his tenders. Noe Rivera competed this year as well, with help from Michael Griffith. Alex Morua and John Suliven participated in the Skills Challenge part of the competition. Alex earned second place in his class. New this year was a Seniors class for Bricklayers over the age of 55. Jack Myers easily took home the 1st place honors, laying almost twice the number of block as his nearest competitor. Matt Christiansen and Alfredo Medina stayed busy mixing mortar to keep the teams well supplied. Robert Close assisted in judging the competition and many other Townsend & Schmidt Masonry employees attended the event to cheer on their co-workers. Count this event as another successful competition organized by Kevin MacDonald; it wouldn't have been near as good without the Townsend & Schmidt Masonry team!

10/13/2007 - 2007 Bricklayer 500

On October 13, 2007, the 2nd annual Bricklayer 500 was held at Quikrete Cement and Concrete Products. There were eight teams of contestants from different masonry contractors in the Sacramento area. The object was to lay 500 brick in an hour. Townsend & Schmidt Masonry was proud to have Micah Dold & Shane Mathis represent us with help from Dan Allen & Chad Close working as their tenders. Many Townsend & Schmidt Masonry employees showed up to root on their co-workers. Our company was well represented and had the biggest cheering group there!

09/15/2007 - 2007 Northern California Fastest Trowel/Skills Challenge

The 1st annual Northern California Fastest Trowel contest was held at Basalite Concrete Products on September 15, 2007. Townsend & Schmidt Masonry was proud to have Chad Close represent us with help from Kelly Abramson and Garr Ben-Iesau working as his tenders. Also taking place was a Skills Challenge for the apprentice workers. Alex Morua and David Singh were showing their skills under the Townsend & Schmidt Masonry banner. Alex earned third place in his class and won a very nice tool bag filled with tools. Our company was also well represented behind the scenes; Matt Christiansen and Andrew Young mixed 7 pallets of mortar in under 3 hours for the 38 bricklayers that were competing, Troy Brewer and Robert Close assisted in judging the competition and countless other Townsend & Schmidt Masonry employees showed up to cheer on their co-workers. All of this was done under the watchful eyes of Kevin MacDonald who made sure everything ran smoothly; from his appearance on the TV show Good Day Sacramento to making sure the kids bounce houses and the band both had an adequate power supply. All in all, it was a great day and we are all looking forward to the competition next year!

10/01/2006 - 2006 Bricklayer 500

The 1st annual Bricklayer 500 was held at Silverado Building Materials on October 1, 2006. There were about ten teams of contestants from different masonry contractors in the Sacramento area. The object was to lay 500 brick in an hour. Townsend & Schmidt Masonry was proud to have Allen Driscoll represent us with help from Richard Jackson working as his tender. Allen took second place and won $500.00 and a new tool bag filled with tools. He also won the "Craftsmanship Award" which was worth an extra $250.00 and an engraved trowel. Congratulations Allen, well done!

09/23/2006 - Picnic At Six Flags Marine World

In previous years, everyone said they had a great time at Six Flags Marine World for the company picnic, so we went back! Around 200 Townsend & Schmidt Masonry employees, vendors, and family members signed up for the fun. The day included; amusement park rides, animal shows, carnival games, lunch in the Sandy Shores picnic grove and a visit from Sylvester The Cat. The food menu was BBQ Tri-tip, hamburgers, salad and ice cream sandwiches.

10/29/2005 - Riverboat Trip

Dinner on the Sacramento River and Monte Carlo gambling were the plans for this year's company party. About 70 Townsend & Schmidt Masonry employees and guests boarded the Matthew McKinley Riverboat in Old Sacramento for a four hour cruise up and down the river. The big winners for the night were Ian Marquez, Becky Mann and Wil Williams. They each won a $75.00 gift certificate for Tahoe Joe's, Black Angus or Chili's restaurants.

09/25/2004 - Picnic At Six Flags Marine World

It was roller coaster rides, animal shows and carnival games for approximately 150 Townsend & Schmidt Masonry employees, vendors, and family members who attended the company picnic at Six Flags Marine World this year. Sylvester The Cat was also a big hit with all of the kids at the Beach Front picnic area during the BBQ.

09/20/2003 - Picnic At Six Flags Marine World

Over 120 Townsend & Schmidt Masonry employees, family members and friends attended the company picnic at Six Flags Marine World. In addition to all of the amusement park rides, animal shows and carnival games, we enjoyed a BBQ lunch in the Shady Cove picnic area complete with a visit from Daffy Duck.

10/12/2002 - Fishing Trip

Starting out at the company office at 3:00 am, over 40 Townsend & Schmidt Masonry employees and family members boarded a bus and headed for Bodega Bay. Once there, we set sail on two chartered boats for the perfect fishing spots. The day included breakfast burritos, hamburgers for lunch and plenty to drink. Thanks to a few people who helped "chum" for fish, we all brought home several fillets of rock cod and ling cod.
